The saga of Effin, Texas has its humble beginning during the latter half of
the 19th Century. It all started when The Effin Family, immigrants from
Germany, made their way across the immense, flat plains of North Texas, headed for
the promise and wonderment of California. However, the American dream can
be somewhat elusive, as The Effin’s found out. They were forced to end their journey
well short of California when The Effin Mule Team fell victim to the venom of a
pack of wild armadillos. Unable to move their wagon, belongings or Effin
Children any farther, Effin Patriarch, Willy B. Effin and his Wife Ima Effin decided
that Texas was a fine place to call home and put down roots. It wasn’t long before more of their kind came upon The Effin
Camp, decided to stay a spell and the small town of Effin, Texas, U.S.A was eventually
founded (pop. 83, 1855).
The Effin’s tried their
hand at farming, and soon found that the inhospitable Texas Summer was perfect for
growing one crop in particular - chile peppers. Over the next decade, The
Effin’s became
known in these parts for their different fiery concoctions and started bottling
their hot sauces and BBQ sauces under the moniker of “Effin, Texas” - for sale in The Effin General Store.
When Willy B. Passed on, Mother Effin and Daughter Anita Effin took over the company
in 1875 and expanded into dry rubs, marinades and more. The rest, as
they say, is “Effin
History”.
Effin, Texas still thrives today. We’re a regular booming
Metropolis as the population has exploded to 121 people - traffic got so bad we
had to put up a STOP sign.
